From 13–15 June, the UM Choir and UM Vocal Ensemble participated in the 2nd Sarawak International Choral Festival and Symposium held in Kuching, Sarawak.
A total of 37 students from the Faculty of Music registered for the event. Both choirs took part in the Adjudicated Performance segment—a competitive performance followed by a working session with the jury—as well as four enriching workshops: The Art of Conducting, Vocal Mastery, Folk Song Improvisation, and Sing Sarawakian Music. In addition, students attended masterclasses conducted by Dr. Heike Henning (Austria) and Dr. Zechariah Goh (Singapore), and performed in the Friendship Concert at Vivacity Megamall.
The UM Vocal Ensemble competed in the Mixed Voices category and was awarded a Gold B with a score of 85.94, earning them the title of Category Winner.
Meanwhile, the UM Choir competed in the Mixed Youth category and achieved a Gold B with a score of 89.06, also being named the Category Winner.
We are grateful for the guidance from the conductor, Ms. Susanna Saw, and the students' dedication to the work.
